Plein Air Painting

We are a group of friends that come together every other week in order to keep the pleasant habit of plein air painting. In this sense, we are very privileged to have the natural beauty of Rio, as well as its rich history, which is present on its old constructions and bucolic places.

The pleasure of plein air painting dates back a long time, even before the Impressionism. In Brazil, by virtue of its warm natural colors, mainly in Rio, this has always been a very common activity. Please see a  photo by 1990,  where one can see the most distinguished painters of that time, with whom some of us, including myself, had the priviledge to paint with them. Please see the nice  photo.

Our group has attended the Worldwide Paint Out organized by the International Plein Air Painters, which takes place in a particular weekend of the year. In the first participations, we had a  photo,  published in the Plein Air Magazine, december issue, 2004 (it was taken at the entrance of the Empress House, in Horto Florestal, a pleasant and bucolic place in Rio).

We have an Orkut community called (in Portuguese)  Pintura ao Ar Livre,  where we have the opportunity to make our group be known by much more people. We have also been discussing about art and painting techniques (not only related to plein air but in a general way). We were also the inspiration for a  nice chronicle,  (in Portuguese), written by J. Carino, and a  wide article  in a local newspaper, O Globo-Ilha.

We have already made two exhibitions: one in the  Tijuca Tennis Clube  and another in the  Ilha Plaza Shopping.

Starting from 2003, by making use of the digital facilities resources, we have been registering our activities. These photos have been displayed in many albuns at  Picasa.  It's aroud one thousand photos !

Please, see a summary of the  History of Our Group  (in Portuguese).
